San Francisco State University invites applications for the position of Director of Labor Studies for appointment beginning August 2009.
This is a tenured position at Associate Professor or Professor rank. Candidates will possess a doctoral or equivalent terminal degree, or be able to establish distinguished equivalent experience and accomplishments that are labor related. In addition, candidates who do not possess a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree must document a combination of formal training and scholarly work that provides clear evidence of scholarly attainments that are the equivalent to the level of a doctoral or appropriate terminal degree. Experience with organized labor and scholarly research and professional activity related to the labor field, including publication of books, articles in professional journals, and presentations at professional meetings are required. Experience with multi-ethnic and multi-cultural working class communities is preferred. Administrative responsibilities will include leadership in development of the major and minor programs, recruiting students and instructors from the labor community and within the university, working with the labor movement to establish internship opportunities, working with the Labor Archives and Research Center, and seeking outside funding. The teaching load for this position is two courses per semester plus the supervision of student internships and independent study projects.
