Certificate in Nonprofit Management
Nonprofit organizations comprise an increasingly significant portion of the American economy as well as an essential element in American civic life, spanning fields as diverse as health care, education, human services, environmental management, criminal justice, and the arts. Across the sector, nonprofits are forced to take stock of who they are and learn new ways of operating effectively and efficiently, which may involve the restatement of their missions or adjusting to new systems of accountability. Nonprofit professionals often find themselves needing additional training in nonprofit management in order to adapt to the ever-changing environment.
The Basic Certificate in Nonprofit Management and the Advanced Certificate in Nonprofit Management provide students with the managerial and analytical tools needed to help prepare them for leadership positions in non-profit entities. Intended primarily for professionals already working in the non-profit sector or those in governmental or private settings who would like to work or volunteer in the nonprofit sector, and students without professional experience who seek to prepare themselves for nonprofit careers, the certificates provide training in nonprofit management skills within the broader context of public administration knowledge. Our goal is to help students develop skills that can be used to achieve organizational missions uniquely aimed at serving the interests of the community. The programs give participants the skills necessary to respond to the complex challenges and opportunities of nonprofit organizations. Designed as an experiential leadership lab, courses provide a stimulating and supportive climate for exploring the pressing issues facing current and future nonprofit leaders.
In Fall 2009, only courses for the Basic Certificate program will be
offered, beginning with the Introduction to the Nonprofit Sector on
September 11 & 12. In Spring 2010, we will offer courses for both the Basic and Advanced Certificate Programs. Please return to this site for information about scheduling and instructors later in the fall. All courses are ten hours long, and will be held on
Friday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.,
with an hour for lunch.
